Guard Kierra Merchant's time with Houston is over after three seasons with the program. | UH Athletics

Junior guard Kierra Merchant’s time in the “Space City” has come to a close, as it was announced on Monday, March 23 that Merchant would leave the Houston Cougars women’s basketball team and enter the transfer portal, via On3’s Talia Goodman, and later confirmed on Merchant’s Instagram story.

Merchant played 88 games across her three seasons in Houston. Her averages in 41 starts were 7.3 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game, along with 1.6 steals.

She was just one of two returners who played on Houston’s 2024-25 team.

In her junior season, Merchant played 29 games with 14 starts. She averaged 8.7 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game, along with 1.3 steals.
