Houston track & field kicked off its outdoor season with two strong outings. | UH Athletics

This past week, Houston track & field officially opened up its 2026 outdoor track season, hosting the Kirk Baptiste Invitational on Thursday, March 19.

It later made the drive to Humble, Texas, on Saturday for the TSU Relays, where only the Cougars’ relay squads competed.

Kirk Baptiste Invitational

Houston was the host for the season-opener of the outdoor season, hosting the Kirk Baptiste Invitational at the Carl Lewis International Complex.

Men’s results

In the 110-meter hurdles, sophomore Noah Hanson got third with a time of 14.37.

Freshman Sean Aigboboh broke the current meet record in the 200-meter, getting a time of 20.74 and for third place.

Freshman Dominic Harper also set a meet record, placing first in the 400-meter with a time of 46.93, which was enough for him to get first, nearly four seconds faster than fellow Cougar freshman Inigo Valencia had in his second-place performance.

For the discus throw, senior Canaan Wharry got second place with a distance of 54.68 meters.

Two Cougars got top three in the hammer throw, with sophomore Ty Lott getting first with a distance of 60.19 and Wharry getting third with a distance of 56.27 meters.

In the high jump, senior Turrey Stoudemire got first place with a height of 2.05 meters.

For the long jump, the freshman duo of Bradley Lowman and Simeon Cannon got second and third, getting distances of 6.90 meters and 6.72 meters respectively.

In pole vaulting, Houston again had two people placing in the top three, with sophomores Colton Harrison getting first with a height of 4.75 meters and Owen Levesque getting third with a height of 4.60 meters.

Lastly, for the men, junior Cordell Nwokeji broke the meet record in shot put, getting first with a distance of 19.48 meters.

Women’s results

In the 100-meter, freshman Zyon Alston got first place with a time of 11.55.

In the 100-meter hurdles, junior Madison Dominguez got second with a time of 13.74, and senior Ali Mack got third with a time of 13.80z

Sophomore Matilde Ochoa got second in the 200-meter sprint with a time of 23.75.

Freshman Kamree Woldridge set a meet record in the 400-meter, getting a time of 54.12 in her first outdoor appearance.

In the hammer throw, junior Zaeda Houff got second place with a distance of 53.51 meters.

For the Javelin throw, junior Reagan Reedy got first place with a distance of 44.56 meters.

Freshman Jaiya Daniels ended up getting first in the long jump with a distance of 5.70 meters. Mack would end up getting second with a distance of 5.65 meters.

For the pole vault, sophomore Nicole Prall and senior Aubrey Tupper got second and third place, both getting heights of 4.02 meters.

Sophomore Cleo Agyepong set a meet record in the shot put, getting a distance of 16.37 meters to claim first place.

Lastly, in the triple jump, Shi’eana Hall got first place in the event with a distance of 12.88 meters.

TSU relays

Only the relay teams made the trip to TSU to compete in their first outdoor competition of the season.

The women’s 4×100 team, with all freshmen, including Skye Fields, Lanai Grant, Alexa Smothers and Alston, finished second in the event with a time of 45.32.

The Cougars started their outdoor season strong, securing four meet records at the Kirk Baptiste Invitational.

Houston will look to continue its encouraging start on March 27-28, at the Victor Lopez Invitational at Rice University.
