Houston junior goalkeeper Sierra McCluer was hardly challenged by Abilene Christian through the first 89 minutes on Thursday night.
However, with less than 10 seconds remaining, the Wildcats made one final push, taking a shot aimed directly at McCluer for only her second save of the night.
The save preserved a 0-0 draw, Houston’s second through its first four matches.
Houston’s best scoring opportunity came late in the first half, when senior midfielder Danielle Shannon put too much on a shot that just sailed over the crossbar.
It was one of the Cougars’ 10 shots in the first half, five of which were on goal.
The pressure continued in the second half, with UH taking an additional 10 shots, but none could get past Abilene Christian sophomore goalkeeper Bella Medrano, who totaled nine saves in the match.
ACU was limited to just seven shots overall, and two shots on goal.
Houston will next prepare for its biggest challenge of the season, when it returns home to face No. 3 Vanderbilt on Sunday at noon.
