Lamar forward Braden East announced his commitment to Houston men’s basketball for his junior season Tuesday afternoon via an Instagram post.

East averaged 12.8 points, 9.1 rebounds and one block per game during his sophomore season with the Cardinals under former Houston head coach and assistant Alvin Brooks at the helm.

The 6-foot-9 native Houstonian and Stafford High School alum started 28 of 30 games in 2025-26, leading the Southland Conference with a total of 274 rebounds and 14 double-double performances, including a career-high 33-point, 10-rebound double-double against Stephen F. Austin on Feb. 7.

East now joins Purdue Fort Wayne guard Corey Hadnot II, LSU guard Dedan Thomas Jr. and Kent State forward Delrecco Gillespie as members of Houston’s 2026 portal class.
