Jonathan Dismuke has retired after 17 years with the Cougars. | UH Athletics

Jonathan Dismuke, the director of Houston golf who spent 17 years coaching the men’s program, will be retiring to accept a position in private business, it was announced by athletic director Eddie Nuñez Tuesday evening.

Dismuke was the longest serving active head coach in Houston athletics, and led UH to 12 NCAA regional team appearances, including an active streak of six consecutive years.

“I have enjoyed being a coach for 20 years, but I recently was given an opportunity to work in the private sector, which will allow me to spend more time with my wife and our children,” Dismuke said in a statement. “Houston will always be home to me, and I have immensely enjoyed my 17 years at the University of Houston.”

Among Houston’s accomplishments under Dismuke were three straight nationals appearances from 2014-16, including a 10th place finish in 2014.

The Cougars also claimed 21 team tournament titles under his guidance, as well as 19 student athletes capturing 29 individual tournament wins.

Dismuke’s departure comes days after Houston women’s golf coach Lydia Lasprilla left the program to accept the same role at Alabama on May 29. He oversaw both programs as director of golf.

A national search for his replacement will begin immediately, per Nuñez.
