Houston women's cross country placed third overall at the Texas A&M Invitational. | UH Athletics

After opening the season at Texas A&M in the Aggie Opener, Houston’s men’s and women’s cross country traveled back to College Station for their second meet of the season.

The women’s team followed up their runner-up finish last week with a third place finish this week, recording 114 points in the 5k.

The Cougars were once again led by their five juniors, who also recorded personal bests. Cadence Patterson led the scoreboard in back-to-back meets, with a tenth-place finish at 17:35.5, followed by Addison Hite in 12th place at 17:38.1.

AnnClaire Cop took 29th with a time of 18:15.1. Lily Campos and Juila Shimel placed 33rd and 36th, respectively, with times of 18:24.6 and 18:27.2.

Sophomore Sophia Nguyen also recorded a personal best of 18:52.2, finishing 52nd.

In the men’s 8k, the Cougars would finish in fourth with 81 points and five runners in the top 37. Senior Henok Hagos led Houston, finishing second overall for the second straight meet, with a time of 23:56.2.

Seniors Jack Boyd and David Soto finished sixth and 18th, respectively, with times of 24:17.3 and 24:56.6. Juniors Remay Abraha and Zade Kayyali would round out the top five for the Cougars finishing 20th and 37th with times of 24:58.7 and 25:36.7.

Up next, the Cougars will head back to College Station on Friday, Oct. 16 for the Arturo Barrios Invitational. The men’s 8k will begin at 8:15 a.m., followed by the women’s 6k at 8:50 a.m.
