Robert Gasser has helped fuel the Milwaukee Brewers’ postseason run all of October.

Now, the former Houston Cougar has a World Series ring to show for it, after the Brewers defeated the Tampa Bay Rays in five games.

Gasser became just the second UH baseball alum to win a World Series as a member of the championship team’s postseason roster, and first since reliever Ben Weber helped the Anaheim Angels defeat the San Francisco Giants in seven games in 2002.

Nicknamed “Bobby Diesel,” Gasser ignited the Brewers’ 10-1 Game 3 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays, becoming the first left-handed pitcher to face the minimum through six innings in a World Series game since Sandy Koufax in 1965.

He also became the first rookie starter to throw six scoreless innings of one-hit ball in a World Series game.

Gasser pitched 15 innings during Milwaukee’s postseason run, posting a 0.60 ERA. His lone earned run allowed came on a solo home run by San Diego’s Fernando Tatis Jr. in Game 2 of the NLDS.

“He is an unbelievable representation of this program, this university,” UH athletic director Eddie Nuñez said.

Gasser began his 2026 campaign in Triple-A Nashville, before earning two call-ups to the majors, first in May and again in June.

Nearly five months after his second call-up, he is a World Series champion.
