Triston Hawthorne, a top-20 national power forward prospect from the class of 2027, announced his commitment to Houston men’s basketball Thursday afternoon via livestream on the NXTPRO PRO16 League channel on YouTube.
Hawthorne, a four-star recruit in his senior year at South Jones High School in his native Ellisville, Miss., becomes the fourth overall member of coach Kelvin Sampson’s 2027 high school class. He also becomes the second frontcourt member of the class behind Iowa United Prep center Derek “Beau” Daniels, who committed to Houston on Sept. 7.
At 6-foot-7 and boasting a 7-foot-2 wingspan, the top-100 national prospect also received offers from Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Harvard.
“To the Houston fans, I can’t wait to get there, put on a jersey, and get to work,” Hawthorne said in the livestream.
