Andrew Danna has been hired as the next head coach of Houston men’s golf, the university announced Wednesday.

He spent the past seven seasons at Florida Gulf Coast University, where he led the program to its first-ever ASUN championship and three NCAA Tournament appearances over the past five years.

“I have understood the rich history and tradition of the University of Houston Men’s Golf program from a very young age, and this is an incredible opportunity that I don’t take lightly. It is truly an honor to be named the head coach at Houston,” Danna said in a statement. “We can achieve incredible success here, and I look forward to hitting the ground running. I can be passionate and a high-energy guy, but above all, I am a players’ coach. I want to create a culture where our student-athletes can succeed in the classroom and on the course, and build a program of which our fans, our alumni, the University and the city of Houston can be proud.”

As a result of his efforts in turning the FGCU program around, Danna has earned four ASUN Coach of the Year honors (2021-22, 2025-26).

After the Eagles finished his first season ranked No. 257 nationally, Danna helped lead a surge up the rankings, which saw them climb to No. 65 after the 2020-21 season.

Before his tenure at FGCU, Danna spent six years at the helm of Lynn, where he led the Division II program to become the 2018 national champions.

He was also named the NCAA Division II Dave Williams National Coach of the Year.

“As a long-time professional in the golf world, Andrew understands and appreciates what the Golf program means to the University of Houston,” athletic director Eddie Nuñez said in a statement. “In a short time, he has built an impressive career with multiple NCAA Regional appearances at Florida Gulf Coast, a national championship at Lynn University and numerous individual awards everywhere he has been.”
