Houston women’s basketball is bringing in some international pedigree for next season, with Spanish guard Marta Llompart announcing her commitment to the program Tuesday.
“Grateful for every step of this journey, and all the coaches, teammates and people who believe in me and pushed me to grow as a player and a person,” Llompart said in a statement on Instagram.
A dynamic playmaker, Llompart came up through Spain’s youth system, recently appearing for European powerhouse Valencia. At just 18 years old, she brings a professional basketball mindset to the team, thanks to the minutes she’s been getting with La Cordà de Paterna NB in Liga Femenina Challenge, Spain’s second division, and the Spanish U16 National Team.
She was a standout in the 2024 FIBA U16 Women’s EuroBasket Tournament, averaging 11.3 points, four rebounds, 3.6 assists (seventh in the tournament) and 3.3 steals (fourth in the tournament), en route to helping Spain finish third in the tournament with an 80-38 blowout win over Italy in the bronze-medal game on August 24.
