Houston track & field showcased its depth Saturday at the Victor Lopez Classic, racking up 12 wins across running and field events.
Houston’s sprinters led the way, highlighted by a sweep of the men’s 100-meter dash. Freshman Sean Aigoboboh claimed the title in 10.33 seconds, followed by senior Dakari Charlton (10.40) and senior Ryan Mulholland (10.50).
The Cougars also swept the men’s 400 meters, as graduate Trey East III won in 46.54, narrowly edging sophomore Damarien Jacobs’ personal-best 46.56. Sophomore King Taylor also added a third-place finish in 47.25.
In relay action, Houston’s men’s 4×100-meter team of sophomore Darius Rodgers, senior Danarrion Ard, freshman Micah Washington and Aigoboboh took first in 39.69, while a second Cougar squad placed runner-up with a time of 39.89.
The men’s 4×400-meter relay closed the meet with another victory, as Jacobs, freshman Dominic Harper, freshman William King IV and Taylor posted a time of 3:11.66.
On the women’s side, All-American senior Kaycee McCoy made an immediate impact in her outdoor debut, winning the 100-meter hurdles in 13.31. Graduate Miracle Thompson completed the race in 13.77 seconds for third place finish.
Freshman Zyon Alston added a victory in the 100 meters (11.77), while junior Michaela Mouton secured first in the 400 meters with a time of 53.66.
Harper paced the Cougars in the men’s 200 meters, winning with a time of 20.93, while junior Michael Onilogbo placed third in 21.19.
In field events, junior Cordell Nwokeji recorded a personal-best throw of 19.55 meters to win the men’s shot put, while sophomore Cleo Agyepong captured the women’s title with a mark of 15.15 meters. Redshirt sophomore Ty Lott opened the meet with a win in the men’s hammer throw, posting a personal-best 61.91 meters.
Sophomore Evina Panagiotou led a strong showing in the women’s pole vault, winning with a clearance of 3.98 meters. Junior Nicole Prall matched the mark to place second, while senior Aubrey Tupper finished third at 3.74 meters.
Among other top finishes, graduate Canaan Wharry placed second in the men’s discus with the 10th-best mark in program history with a height of 55.97 meters. Freshman Bradley Lowman and freshman Simeon Cannon finished second and third, respectively, in the men’s long jump with clearances of 7.17 and 6.91 meters.
Sophomore Athena Stith took second in the women’s event with a 5.86 meter distance.
Freshman Kenneth Owen added a runner-up finish in the men’s high jump with a 2.07 meter height, followed by senior Turey Stoudemire in third with a 2.02 mark. Sophomore Stephanie Ume-Ezeoke recorded a personal-best 11.90 meters to place third in the women’s triple jump, and sophomore Tirea Reed took third in the women’s discus (47.95m).
On the track, Houston added multiple runner-up and podium finishes. Sophomore Invida Maurina placed second in the women’s 800 meters (2:07.56), while sophomore Noah Hanson (14.01) and junior Jarius Burton (14.24) finished second and third in the men’s 110-meter hurdles.
King IV placed second in the men’s 400-meter hurdles (51.84), with Hanson adding a third-place finish (53.60). Freshman Kyra Hayden recorded a personal-best 1:02.54 to take second in the women’s 400-meter hurdles, and sophomore Norah Nwonumah finished second in the women’s 200 meters (24.28).
Junior Patrick Flowers rounded out the distance events with a personal-best 3:47.71 to place third in the men’s 1500 meters.
The women’s 4×400-meter relay team of freshman Kamree Wolridge, freshman Madison Sweezer, Hayden and freshman Jada Stanford finished second with a time of 3:46.57.
Houston will return to action at the Texas Relays from April 2-4 in Austin.
