Houston men’s golf rallied on the final day of the All-American Collegiate in Humble, Texas, to complete a massive comeback which led them to a top-5 finish.
The Cougars shot their best round on Tuesday with a 3-under 285, which was enough to propel them from 13th to 5th.
The first day of the tournament was a struggle for all participants because there were wind gusts up to 20 mph, making it a real challenge for the Cougars to hit shots accurately.
It was a different story the following day as the team recorded 17 of their 27 total birdies on the final day.
Juniors Chi Chun Chen and Grant Doggett both had top-15 finishes, with Chen claiming the 14th spot with a 69 3-under par final round, and Doggett followed in 15th with a 70 2-under par.
Redshirt senior Hudson Weibel and sophomore Hsuan-Yi Chen rounded out Houston’s scoring, finishing in 30th and 37th place respectively.
In the individual portion of the event, senior Bryant Hiskey II finished the tournament strong with an even par-72 round on Tuesday, placing him 4th overall.
The Cougars’ freshmen also played a huge role in the tournament, with three finishing in the top 25.
Redshirt freshman Dominic Green finished tied for 15th and freshman Jakub Janda trailed close behind in 18th.
Freshman Jayk Altic finished tied for 21st to round out the tournament and showcase the young talent that the Cougars have.
