Houston men’s golf senior Bryant Hiskey began his spring season off right by firing a record-setting opening round, which led to his first-ever individual title.
He finished the tournament at 13-under 205 to walk away victorious at the Houston Classic at the Golf Club of Houston.
Hiskey opened up the event by scoring a career-best 64, which included nine birdies and an eagle.
His first round was the 13th time that a Cougar shot a 64 or lower in program history.
From that point on, he was on cruise control, and he just needed to put together a solid showing in the final round to claim the title.
With a two-stroke lead going into the final day of the tournament, his final-round 69 was enough to hold off Dallas Baptist’s senior Samuel Jenkins by two strokes on the par-72 course.
Freshman Jakub Janda also made his collegiate debut at the Houston Classic, and he finished the event tied for 33rd at 226.
Senior Ruben Lindsay followed in scoring with a 236, which tied him for 76th.
Houston also had additional competitors in action at the Bentwater Intercollegiate in Montgomery, Texas.
Freshman Jayk Altic tied for 43rd at 220, while junior Enrique Karg finished tied for 63rd with a score of 230.
Next up, the Cougars will return to team competition Feb. 16-17, when they host the Border Olympics at Laredo Country Club in Laredo, Texas.
