Houston tennis cleared their competition this past Thursday, beating North Texas and UT Arlington 4-0.
The Cougars are 5-0 for the first time since 2018 and have won their first five matches for the first time in program history. The Cougars have already surpassed their 2025 win total of four matches.
Despite North Texas securing a win in the first doubles match, the Cougars took control and claimed the doubles points. Juniors Iva Sepa and Valeriia Krokhotina took it home on court two, as did juniors Elizaveta Morozova and Petja Drame on court three, both winning their sets 6-3.
In singles, Sepa swept freshman Ujin Batsukh, 6-2, 6-1.
Senior Sophie Schouten defeated senior Marina Adati, 6-0, 6-4, right as Krokhotina clutched the win against Lilly Schultz, 7-5, 6-1.
During the second match of the day against UT Arlington, Houston took the doubles points yet again.
Senior Chems Doha Zeghlouli and Schouten dominated sophomore Vanja Cado and graduate Elizaveta Mladentseva, 6-1.
Sepa and Krokhotina clutched their second doubles of the day against the freshmen duo of Sofia Selle and Diana Kaibara, 6-2.
Starting the singles matchups strong, Morozova swept Vanja Cado, 6-0, 6-1 and Krokhotina secured 6-1 set victories over freshman Flora Farkaslaki.
Freshman Alexia Lavinia Puiac earned her first collegiate victory against freshman Natalia Gonzalez on court two, 6-1, 6-1.
Houston tennis will return Feb. 7 to play against the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley at the Barbara Wallace Winston Tennis Facility.
