Freshmen continue charge for Houston cross country in Arturo Barrios Invitational

Redshirt freshman Addison Hite and freshman Zac Miller each became the first Cougars to cross the line for their squads for the third consecutive meet with Houston cross country, at the Arturo Barrios Invitational on Friday in College Station, Texas.

Hite and Miller’s efforts helped their squads place 13th and 10th respectively in the Cougars’ return to the Watts Cross Country Course following the Texas A&M Invitational the week prior.

Miller finishes top 20 for Cougars in men’s 8K

In part of clinching 333 points for the Cougars in their 10th place finish in the men’s 8K, Miller posted a personal best time of 23:39.9 in his 18th overall finish among Houston’s five scorers. 

Junior Patrick Flowers posted a personal best of 24:26.4 to finish 84th, with junior Aaron Crittenden not far behind in 90th 24:30.2.

Sophomore Remay Abraha immediately followed in 91st at 24:30.9, and sophomore Caden Thurman concluded scoring for the Cougars, finishing 117th at 24:48.3.

Hite soars to top 40 finish in women’s 6K

Among the Cougars five scorers in the women’s 6K, Hite’s 37th overall finish at 20:40.7 helped Houston secure 400 squad points. Sophomore Candace Patterson bolstered the squad efforts with a 50th overall finish on a personal best time of 20:55.4.

Sophomore Lily Campos clinched a personal best of 21:49.2 to finish 102nd overall, and freshman Sofia Ngyuen placed 112th at 21:58.6.

Sophomore Julia Shimel capped off scoring for the Cougars, as she finished 126th at 22:08.2.

Up next, the Cougars will mark the start of their postseason journey, as they’ll compete in the Big 12 Championship at Rim Rock Farm in Lawrence, Kan. on Friday, Oct. 31.
