Houston soccer ended its three-game road trip on Friday night with a 1-1 draw at Cincinnati.
The Cougars looked to end their road trip on a high note with a fifth win in conference play, which would’ve given them their most in a single season since 2021.
Houston got off to a scintillating start in the eighth minute, when fifth-year defender and captain Ella Morgan headed the ball toward goal on a corner kick, before fifth-year midfielder and fellow captain Morgan Donohue connected with the ball inside the six-yard box and put it past junior goalkeeper Amber Brandon and into the net.
About 19 minutes later, Cincinnati leveled the score when fifth-year forward Coley Sidloski received the ball on the right wing. She then blew past sophomore Samira Minor before launching a pass into the Cougars’ penalty area.
Senior midfielder Ava Shannon tried to clear it, but mistimed it as Cincinnati junior forward Tiana Campbell unleashed a first-touch shot past junior goalkeeper Sierra McCluer and into the back of the net.
The second half saw more free-flowing offense from both teams, but neither could find the net to break the deadlock. Houston outshot Cincinnati 11-6 while both squads had seven corners.
Both goalkeepers were heavily involved, with Brandon having five saves for the day while McCluer had four.
Next up, the Cougars will play their first home game in over two weeks on Thursday, Oct. 22 at 7 p.m., when they take on the team that eliminated them from making the conference tournament last season, TCU.
