Houston men’s golf closed out the Big 12 Championship at Prairie Dunes Country Club in Hutchinson, Kan. with its strongest round of the entire tournament, finishing 14th overall against a field that included nine top-50 programs in the country.
Senior Hudson Weibel led the Cougars throughout the week, tying for 14th individually with a total score of 282.
His overall performance was highlighted by a standout second round, firing a 65 as the lowest round shot by a Cougar since 2013.
Houston found itself entering the final day in last place after posting rounds of 582 and 877 through the first three rounds; however, a final round team score of 284 was enough to propel the Cougars up two places in the standings.
Junior Chi Chun Chen delivered Houston’s best score in the final round with a 1-under 69, finishing tied for 51st at 291.
Junior Grant Doggett tied for 66th at 297, and sophomore Hsuan-Yi Chen followed in 71st in his Big 12 Championship debut.
Houston will now wait for the NCAA Selection Show on May 6 to learn its postseason destination, as the Cougars aim to qualify for the NCAA Regionals for the sixth straight season.
