The NCAA denied Houston senior wide receiver Stephon Johnson his medical redshirt, which he applied for following the 2025 season.
Johnson suffered a Lisfranc fracture in his right foot against Oklahoma State on Oct. 11, and underwent surgery.
NCAA rules permit players to compete in up to four contests, in order to retain their eligibility. Johnson competed in five games and two quarters during which he totaled 275 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
The Houston native spent one year at Oklahoma State before transferring to UH in 2023. That season, Johnson caught a game-winning hail mary touchdown pass to secure Houston its first Big 12 win in October against West Virginia. He finished his career with 1,247 yards and nine touchdowns.
Johnson spent the remainder of the 2025 season in a boot, but recently began walking without it.
