In a Super Bowl battle between the Joneses and two former Houston football alumni, Seattle Seahawks offensive tackle Josh Jones, who was a Cougar from 2015-19, came out the winner.

Jones and the Seahawks defeated defensive back and return specialist Marcus Jones’ New England Patriots 29-13 in Super Bowl LX.

Marcus Jones, who played with the Cougars from 2019-21, recorded seven total tackles, all in solo fashion, on Sunday.

Josh Jones and Seattle had firm control of the game throughout, leading 19-0 until a New England touchdown early in the fourth quarter brought the game within two possessions at 19-7.

However, two Patriot turnovers in the fourth quarter would slam the door on their chances.

It was the first time two Cougars on active rosters faced off in the Super Bowl since 1990, when Denver’s Simon Fletcher and Johnnie Jackson of San Francisco met in Super Bowl XXIV.
